“We could not be more thrilled to welcome the USA Rugby National Development Summit to Denver this year,” Denver Sports Commission Executive Director Matthew Payne said. “Our city celebrates the sport of rugby – from collegiate competitions to international matches; and by strengthening the natural relationship we have with USA Rugby and its members, we hope to showcase Denver as a capital for the sport.”
The Summit brings a wealth of knowledge to an area with strong rugby roots, with Rugby Colorado, Rocky Mountain Rugby, and The Rocky Mountain Rugby Referees all excited to host the USA Rugby community in the Mile High City. Denver offers great amenities to attendees including a walkable city environment, access to the finest winter outdoor facilities in the world, and a world-class hotel partner in the Denver Marriott City Center.

The Summit, held annually, features an education- and entertainment-filled weekend with content for all members of the rugby community: coaches, referees, administrators, players, and organizations. The event saw its largest attendance in 2017, with more than 550 attendees, presenters, and exhibitors gathering in Baltimore, Md.
USA Rugby Director of Training and Education Kenny Forehand is excited to use the momentum from 2017 to heighten the attendee experience.
“We had great presentations in 2017, and feedback from attendees will help us create an even better event in 2018. The practical sessions were a huge success last year and we’re looking to create an engaging and entertaining experience for all of our attendees.”
The 2018 Summit lands in a pivotal spot on the rugby calendar, following a big year for USA Rugby’s Women’s and Men’s Eagles internationally at the Women’s Rugby World Cup and qualification for Rugby World Cup 2019, respectively. The Summit will look forward to the historic hosting of Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 in San Francisco the following July.
The 2018 agenda will be filled with exciting community, national, and international speakers. The Call for Proposals is currently open on the event website: rugbysummit.com. The 2018 NDS will focus on community growth, diversity, and development at all levels of the game, as well as many other exciting topics. Networking events and opportunities will continue to be a focus for the event providing attendees, exhibitors, and sponsors with more chances to meet and discuss ideas with other members of the community.
Former speakers include USA Rugby National Team coaches Emilie Bydwell, Mike Friday, Wil Snape, and Richie Walker; USA Eagles Ryan Carlyle, Alev Kelter, and Mike Petri; head of South Africa Referee Academy Hendrik Greyvenstein; and 2016 World Rugby Coach of the Year Michael Cheika of Australia.
